About

I'm Darren, and Thinkative is my brainchild. Or more accurately, my kid's idea.

I've spent years inside organisations trying to make strategy, delivery and digital actually work together, usually when things were messy. That taught me something about the traditional consulting model. It's slow, overly abstract, and too far from how the place really runs. You get good thinking and not enough change.

So I built this differently. I work independently, and when a problem needs more than me, I bring in people I've worked with and trust. No fixed teams. No layers for the sake of it. Just the right people for the job in front of you.

What I bring

A real operating track record, not advice from the sidelines.

I've been acting CEO of a complex organisation mid-change. I've held fractional and advisory roles with leadership teams under real pressure. I've led digital and operating-model change in a range of places, and sat with boards and executives on the calls that actually matter.

That's the difference. I've been in the seat. I know what it's like when the decision is yours and the clock's running.

How I work

Hands-on, and close to how the organisation actually runs.

I help you work out what's really going on, make the hard calls, and see it through to delivery. Not a deck and a handshake. Change you can point at.

I work independently but not alone

One of the people I bring in is Doug Talbot, co-founder of The Adjacent. Doug's spent years helping leadership teams work through genuinely hard strategic problems. We team up where a situation needs deeper strategic framing alongside the execution, and it works well.

If something isn't working the way it should, it's usually fixable. The first step is getting clear on what's really going on.
